I think my love of fabric books comes from my absolute passion for both fabric and books. I can spend hours and hours at the fabric store just oogling over the many different fabrics. I practically drool at the mouth over some of it. I love the variety of colors, patterns and textures! I also love to collect fabric at yard sales. I have boxes and boxes of fabric (I kid you not) and do not need any more! I definitely have enough to last me a lifetime. And yet when I see fabric at a yard sale I just cannot resist buying it. I have gotten such good deals too! One older woman sold me one very large box of absolutely lovely fabrics for $5.00! I have gotten nice large pieces for 25 cents, etc. I mean, really, how can I pass that up?
I also love books of all kinds. I've always been a reader since I was a child and my mom filled our house with books and took us to the library every summer for armloads of books to read during the warm summer months.
So what am I to do with all this fabric and my love for both books and fabric? You guessed it - Make beautiful books, scrapbooks, journals and more!
Sometimes I stiffen the fabric by using a Heat and Bond product to create a sturdier, double sided fabric. Sometimes I'll sew a paper in between two pieces of fabric as in the ROD journals. We have more creations to bring you in this area in the months ahead, so please be sure to check back often if you are as addicted to fabric and books as I am... And even if you're just a little into them. I think your love will grow.
So check out the links that follow for directions on making various types
of fabric mini books, journals, etc., as well as some inspiration.
I have recently been seeing a lot of books using vintage lace. Oh, they are beautiful. I must incorporate some of lace to create a lace book soon!
We would also love to see your books made from fabric. Please use the form below to send us photos of your creations!
