The idea behind recycled books is to take something that is about to be
thrown in the trash and instead turn it into a useful item, such as a
mini scrapbook or a journal! There's going to be a lot more coming to
this section of our website over the next few months, so stay tuned.
I also love taking old books and turning them into journals. Here are some examples of books that I have done this with.
I cut the covers off interesting books of all kinds - children's books, poetry books, vintage books, etc. If the inside pages are interesting I keep them for a couple of the inside pages for each of my books. But I also use other things for the pages such as sheet music, wallpaper samples, scrapbook paper (of course!), heavy duty gift wrap (there are some beautiful papers in gift wrap these day!), envelopes, paper bags, encyclopedia pages, children's book pages, etc., etc.
I bind these books together in various ways. One of my favorites is the Sewn Tape Bindings. The tapes are fabric strips.
But I also do some where I leave the outside covers in tact and just take out the inside pages, keeping the spine. I then do various bookbinding stitches to hold the new pages in place. Again, these inside pages are made from the same types of things I mentioned above.
I sell a lot of these in my Etsy shop.
