The basic idea behind flag books is that they have an accordion spine
and the pages lie on either side of that spine, falling in opposite
directions. It makes quite a splash when you open the book up. It is quite visual and very fun!
I have found quite a few variations on these types of mini scrapbooks that I will share here as I get the time.
Here are our instructions on how to make your own:
These can be used just like any mini scrapbook with photos, embellishments and journaling. Choose a specific theme such as Babies, Birthday, Family, Christmas, Vacation, Summer, Easter, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Sports, Circus, Zoo, Grandparents, Winter, Fall, Spring, Graduation, Pets, et cetera and decorate them with embellishments and photos from your special event. You will create a one of a kind, very special mini album, either for yourself or to give away as a gift.
Something very interesting that I have also
seen is homeschoolers use these mini books for teaching purposes! The
kids will put information that they are learning about into the books,
sometimes with pictures on one side and text on the other. This
hands-on type of learning helps the children retain what they've
learned and it gives them a permanent record of their learning. The children will go back to their books time and time again. Great for review!
There are also several book artists who have created some beautiful and very interesting books with this technique. Check out these
Book Arts Examples. They are truly inspiring!
